The sin of partiality is sorting people out through worldly principles or standards.
James 2:8-9 references Leviticus 19:18 which equates showing partiality with violating the Law. This then ties in with Leviticus 19:15. If you follow v. 18 but not v. 15 you are failing to do the same thing. If you fail in one thing you fail the whole Law.
6 Points Regarding Partiality:
1 - We must look beyond worldly evaluations and look to God's view of who we are (James 1: 9-10a, cross reference Jeremiah 9:23-24)
2 - Remember the transitory nature of the world including its riches (James 1:10b-11)
3 - Remember who a gracious God chooses and how (James 2:5, cross reference 1 Corinthians 1:26-29)
4 - Remember the dignity of other image bearers (James 2:6a, cross reference Proverbs 14:31 and 17:5)
5 - Remember the Golden Rule (James 2:6b-9)
6 - Remember that we will be judged by our mercy (James 2:12-13).
Matthew 5:7 - "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy."
